I want to thank those who have signed up for this event...
I want to second
Allan's thanks -- the roster is
impressive, and both I and Volunteer Library board are extremely excited about this; I've got quite a number of booksellers who aren't scheduled to work who are showing up on Saturday just to see you folks.
Press has gone out to the local newspapers, radio, and television -- I already saw a small blurb in the Register-Guard (Eugene/Springfield newspaper) about the Bookfair event. The Volunteer Library has a bit on their website
HERE, complete with a downloadable flyer/voucher
HERE. You should check out the flyer/voucher link -- it's definitely eye-catching!
These flyers, as well as posters that Allan and Karyn saw in our bookstore, have been distributed throughout the River Road Santa Clara community, including at a couple schools in the immediate vicinity. I'll be making the rounds today at a few more schools in a district that is near the Volunteer Library, so I'm really expecting a strong turnout.
"Controlled chaos" is the best phrase to describe these kinds of events, right?
A few logistical items:
- Our breakroom, which Allan saw, will serve as a staging/changing area for you folks; bathrooms are close by. If it turns out that space becomes an issue, we can relocate to our Receiving Warehouse, which is on the other side of the bookstore but is much more spacious.
- Depending on the number folks that show up, we may want to spread the Garrison out throughout the bookstore more than originally planned -- feel free to wander throughout the store, even outside (weather permitting)...basically, wherever you folks feel comfortable to showcase yourselves.
- Wandering aside, we'll plan on setting up the backdrop (if it's still coming) in our Children's Department.
- You'll break for lunch at 1:00 PM when our guest author begins his storytime and booksigning. I'll leave the return time up to you folks, though I imagine Kevin will be done just before 2:00 PM.
- I'll be providing a 4 to 6-foot long party sub for you folks, but we also have a Cafe with soups and sandwiches, plus there are a number of restaurants nearby, including a Red Robin, Olive Garden, Mucho Gusto (burrito-type food)...plus the mall across the street has a food court.
- If at all possible, I'd like to ask that if you folks choose to eat lunch here in the bookstore that you eat in our Cafe -- our breakroom may be large enough to accommodate staging/changing, but I don't think there will be enough room for everyone to sit and eat all at once...at least, eat comfortably.
Allan: A quick question for you -- how many spotters will be accompanying you folks?
To everyone: -- I trust that you have directions, but if you need them or anything else, or just have any general questions, please don't hesitate to post or PM me. You can also reach me at the following e-mail address:
crm2978 at bn dot com. I'll probably be in touch once more before Saturday.
Here we go!
