Heart of an Empire question.
« on: February 25, 2010, 11:01:16 PM »
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew if, the makers of, Heart of an Empire have stopped selling the DVD?  Background: I went to their website, today, and found that it is being sold.  I was wondering if anyone in the garrison, or 501st for that matter, knew if they have stopped selling the DVD.

as far as I know they are not selling at the moment. Maybe the new owners will finally get distribution going in the US.

Have they made an NTSC version yet? I have been waiting to buy one. They released it as PAL which is great for other countries, but not for us. Here is an explanation:

Can I play the DVDs with picture format in PAL and region 2 or 0 (DVDs from Poland and Europe in general) on my standard DVD player?.
the answer is:
Your DVD player has to be able to understand PAL DVDs, also region 2 and 0, in order to play them on a standard North American TV monitor (which is set up in NTSC system).
Most North American DVD players do not understand PAL system and region 2 or 0 (so called universal region). They understand only NTSC system and region 1.
If the picture format of a DVD offered on our pages is NTSC and region 1, than you don't have to worry about anything. Such DVD will play in your DVD player as any DVDs rented from a DVD rental store in USA and Canada or bought in a local DVD store in US or Canada.
If the picture format is PAL and region 2 or 0 (or U - universal),  you have to make sure that your DVD player is BOTH:  multisystem (not only code free) and region free. To find out if your DVD player is multisystem you have to contact your local DVD dealer where you bought your DVD equipment.
Anyway, when purchasing DVDs in our store it is essential to read the following specification lines on our pages with DVDs: Region and Picture format.

My understanding is that they only ever released them in the Region 2, and not the NTSC version. However, if I am given to understand, if you have a DVD player in your computer, you should be able to view it that way.

This is how I watched it when I borrowed it. It is a bit of a pita, but if they are still available in the Region 2 (or whatever region it was), that is an option for viewing. I know that when it becomes available for our market, I definitely want to get a copy. That is a documentary that every Star Wars fan, ever Star Wars costumer should get. It was a very well-made documentary.

No, the version out there needs to be played on your computer.

Am I buying copies for everyone? Because I don't know if they will be sold, I am getting a DVD while I am down there from a member (I don't know if original or a burnt copy). I don't mind making a "backup" that people can borrow, but before I leave I want to make sure I know what you guys want me to do. I do plan on showing this at the picnic/BBQ for those attending.
